Magda Wierzycka
Chief Executive Officer
Magda Wierzycka, Sygnia CEO, is the force behind the company’s rapid growth and is the architect of its innovative strategy. She started her career as a product development and investments actuary at Southern Life in 1993 and then worked as an investment consultant for two years at Alexander Forbes. In 1997, she joined Coronation Fund Managers as a director and as its Head of Institutional Business. She left Coronation in 2003 to start IQvest, a fund of hedge funds management company. Later that year, after selling IQvest to the African Harvest group, she was appointed to the position of CEO of African Harvest. After negotiating the sale of African Harvest Fund Managers to Cadiz Financial Services in 2006, she led the management buy-out of the remainder of the African Harvest group, which resulted in the formation of Sygnia.

Professor of Economics and Director of the Development Policy Research Unit at UCT; Director on the Board of the Western Cape Tourism, Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (WESGRO); member of the Statistics Council, Statistics South Africa; member of the South African Journal of Economics Editorial Board; member of the World Bank Commission on Global Poverty.

Rashid Ismail
Chief Financial Officer
Rashid Ismail is a highly accomplished finance professional with over a decade of experience at Sygnia. He holds a Bachelor of Business Science in Finance and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, both from the University of Cape Town (UCT), and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) (SA). After completing his articles at Deloitte in the Financial Services team in 2012, Rashid joined Sygnia in 2013 as a Financial Manager. He was promoted to Head of Finance in 2017 and, in 2024, was elected as the Chief Financial Officer.

Jurgen Boyd
Independent Non-Executive Director
Jurgen Boyd joined the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in November 2000 and retired as Divisional Executive for Market Integrity Supervision at the end of March 2021. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, he previously held roles in the private sector as an accountant, auditor, financial manager, business consultant and financial director. At the FSCA he was responsible for conduct oversight of market infrastructures (including stock exchanges and central securities depositories), over-the counter derivatives providers and rating agencies. Prior to this he had executive, regulatory and supervisory responsibilities in different sectors of the financial services industry, including the pensions and collective investment schemes industries.

Joanna Corelli
Global Head: Marketing/Strategy
Joanna Corelli has more than two decades of experience in marketing and has played a key role in the expansion of Sygnia Asset Management. She spearheads Sygnia’s marketing department, expanding assets from R4.7 billion to over R232.9 billion and introducing several key products. Her extensive background includes a role as Senior Producer at MTV Networks, where she innovated digital content strategies, along with various media production roles at major US networks. Holding a BA (Hons) in Art History from the University of Cape Town, Ms Corelli began her professional journey at the South African National Gallery and the Market Theatre.

Aboubakar (Bakar) Jakoet
Independent Non-Executive Director
Bakar is a chartered accountant and an experienced director. He currently serves as a non-executive director on the Pick n Pay Stores Limited Board. After many years of service, Bakar retired as Chief Financial Officer of Pick n Pay Stores Limited in September 20192019, having held various positions, directorships and executive positions across the Pick n Pay group.
